Allegro
Model Austin Allegro 1300 Super 4-Door Saloon 1976
Engine Original 1275cc 4-cylinder A-series, original skimmed head then a Marina head, reground valves, Mini starter motor, one-off home painted "Austin Lotus" rocker cover, modified radiator (ends removed, leaking rows braised up, end caps replaced), engine bay detailed in red/black.
Gearbox Original 4 speed manual with porridge stirring action, scrapyard driveshafts (originals both snapped).
Suspension Standard hydrogas, gravity lowered at front
Wheels Standard 13" steel wheels, budget tyres, one smiley hubcap.
Bodywork Standard saloon with Vinyl roof, grille removed, numberplate on bonnet, 4 x spotlights on bonnet, lots of filler and rust, front wing held on with aluminium brackets and pop rivets, front bumper removed (for a while).
Paint Rear end resprayed original Austin Citron (green), bonnet partly grey primer, front wing light brown, passenger door dark brown, purple Hammerite on rear wheel arch.
Interior Standard black vinyl interior, spotlight controls in place of stereo, sports steering wheel with Leyland centre cap, cuddly toy. Crap stereo.

Fate Scrap man took it away. I got £10.

Datsun 120Y
Model Datsun 120Y 4-Door Estate 1975
Engine Original 1200cc 4-cylinder engine, in-line fuel filter fitted.
Gearbox Original 4 speed manual.
Suspension Standard coils and leaf springs.
Wheels Standard 12" steel wheels, budget tyres, front wheels painted white. Hubcaps discarded.
Bodywork Standard estate body, bottoms of doors made of masking tape covered in underseal (undetectable without a magnet) Inner wings patched with bits of Chevette, underside held together by mud, front chassis rail reinforced with angle iron, drivers floor plated with road sign. Roof dented by students. Gutters above front doors bent up by lifting strap when car was lifted out of field (oops).
Paint Original white base with yellow flames in Fads exterior gloss, outlined with permanent marker. Door handles and rear bumper in purple Hammerite, bottom 4" of car undersealed to hide rust.
Interior Standard dark blue vinyl, home-made rev counter by previous owner, no carpets due to mould, rope to hold tailgate shut. Crap stereo with graphic equaliser (later stolen)
Price Free, from my Mum.
Fate Scrapped with a valid MOT, I got £30 at the yard. It was so rotten it would have been manslaughter to sell it. I visited it in the yard, it had been raced around a field by somebody and was quite smashed up.

Vauxhall Magnum
Model Vauxhall Magnum 2-Door Saloon 1976
Engine Original 1800cc 4-cylinder engine, drilled out carb jet, no air filter, homemade exhaust.
Gearbox Magnum then Magnum then Victor FD I think (all 4 speed manual), hole in floor to make Victor box fit.
Suspension Front standard coils, rear lowered with BMW coils.
Wheels Viva GLS 13" steel wheels, budget tyres, spacers front and rear.
Bodywork Standard 2-door saloon with Vinyl roof, front valance pushed in, dent in passenger side front wing, bonnet bent. BMW "bifocal" headlights, 4 x spotlights until I broke them. No mirrors.
Paint Cannon's Repaint white brushpaint with black scuttle and bonnet peak, motorsport stickers, large "OUCH"
Interior Standard black cloth front seats swapped right to left on subframes to pass MOT, no doorcards, no carpets, plate steel dash with MK2 Cortina speedo and rev counter, twin clocks, map light etc. Sports steering wheel, floor bungs removed to let rain water out. Floor in black Hammerite. Crap stereo.

Fate Given back to the previous owner for free with no MOT. The motor was used again, the shell was stripped and scrapped. Whilst sitting in an alley with no windscreen, someone or something took a dump on the dashboard.

Vauxhall Viva 1 (breaker)
Model Vauxhall Viva 2-Door Saloon 1974
Engine Original 1256cc 4-cylinder engine, resting on brake fluid reservoir due to missing engine mount.
Gearbox Original 4-speed manual.
Suspension Standard coils all round.
Wheels Standard 13" steels.
Bodywork Standard 2-door saloon. Hole in drivers door to insert coathanger for entry.
Paint Original dark blue.
Interior Blue/black fur dashboard, door cards and seat covers. Grafitti on headlining. Original linear speedometer. No stereo.
Price £20, from a "friend"
Fate Engine sold for £20, shell stripped and left on the drive. Mum wasn't happy, one day I came home and the shell was gone.

Vauxhall Viva 2 (daily driver)
Model Vauxhall Viva E 2-Door Saloon 1978
Engine Original 1256cc 4-cylinder engine, new head gasket, homemade exhaust system.
Gearbox Original 4-speed manual.
Suspension Standard coils all round.
Wheels Weller 13" chrome 8-spokes, rusty.
Bodywork Standard 2-door saloon.
Paint Three-colour diagonally striped paint in Vauxhall racing colours. Front Fads yellow exterior gloss. Middle Fads red exterior gloss. Rear original dark blue.
Interior Standard black vinyl, original linear speedometer. Crap stereo.
Price £50, from a friend
Fate Scrapped due to rot. The wheels were sold to a guy who moved house before I could get the money. Always get payment up front.

VW Camper
Model VW Type 2 with Dormobile Camper Conversion 1972
Engine Rebuilt 1600cc flat-4 Beetle engine based on Mexican block.
Gearbox Standard 4 speed manual.
Suspension Standard.
Wheels Standard steels painted silver with chrome hubcaps
Bodywork Dormobile camper conversion, roofrack.
Paint Original white with purple Hammerite over rust.
Interior Brown cloth interior, cooker under passenger seat, cheesy fridge, wardrobe, sink, cupboards, table converting to double bed, twin hammocks in roof space. Cab carpet made from large doormat. Block of wood to keep accelerator pedal from bending. Crap stereo (good one was stolen).
Price Free on loan, from a friend.
Fate Went back to the friend, who sold it to a mug for a large amount of money.

Ford Cortina
Model Ford Cortina XL 1600cc 4-Door Saloon 1974
Engine Standard 4-cylinder "Pinto" 1600cc
Gearbox Standard 4 speed manual, gearstick held in with baling wire.
Suspension Standard.
Wheels Standard 13" steel rostyles in black/silver.
Bodywork Front wings from another car hence different trim.
Paint Original Daytona Yellow, boot and rear wings rust repaired and resprayed. Rear valance in black gate enamel.
Interior Original black vinyl. Late model dash. Crap stereo.
Price £100, from a friend.
Fate Donated to the owners club with no MOT. Attempts to trace it since have failed.

Avenger Tiger
Model Hillman Avenger Tiger 4-Door Saloon 1974
Engine Standard 4-cylinder 1500cc
Gearbox Standard 4 speed manual.
Suspension Standard.
Wheels Standard 13" steels
Bodywork Fibreglass front wings, replacement doors, original boot & spoiler, front crumple zones welded for strength.
Paint Original orange with stripes on rear wings and boot spoiler, rest of car in white primer.
Interior In boxes but I think it was all there. No stereo.
Price £250, from a friend.
Fate Sold to a chap from the ASOC. Now awaiting restoration to concours condition.

Austin Maestro
Model Austin Maestro 1600c 5-Door Hatchback 1986
Engine Standard 4-cylinder 1600cc
Gearbox Standard 3 speed automatic.
Suspension Standard.
Wheels Standard 13" steels painted white with centre caps removed.
Bodywork Original, side mouldings removed, repair patch on front bumper, rear door handle missing.
Paint Dulux orange gloss with Dulux white gloss roof stripe ending with arrowhead on bonnet.
Interior Standard grey cloth, roof mounted pullcord for airhorns. Orange and white fur parcel shelf. Crap stereo.
Price Free, from Lisa.
Fate Scrapped with a valid MOT. It just wasn't worth the effort.

Mini
Model Austin Mini Mayfair 1000cc 2-Door Saloon 1983
Engine Metro 4-cylinder 1275cc A-series, one-off exhaust.
Gearbox Metro 4-speed manual, Verto type clutch, mini driveshafts, diff in pieces, casing damaged.
Suspension Standard suspension. Front disk brake conversion with servo. Rear late model spacer drums.
Wheels Late model 12" steels painted silver/black.
Bodywork Late model shell with side indicator holes filled. Chrome grille, chrome bumpers, chrome arch and side trim, halogen headlight conversion, aftermarket fog light, dent in boot.
Paint One-off red. Subframes in black Hammerite.
Interior Black vinyl door cards, original brown front seats with leopard skin covers (temporary), black cloth rear seat, no carpets yet, rear shelf covered with grey Maestro boot carpet. Original 2-dial dash. Pull-out stereo.
Price £450, advert in the paper.
Fate Car sold for £200, number plate for £300.

Morris Minor
Model Morris 1000 2-Door Saloon 1970
Engine Rebuilt 4-cylinder 1098cc A-series.
Gearbox Rebuilt 4-speed manual, no synchromesh on first. Morris Traveller rear axle.
Suspension Standard front. Morris traveller 7-leaf springs on rear.
Wheels Original 14" steels painted cream with chrome hub-caps.
Bodywork Original 2-door shell, replacement front wings.
Paint Original maroon with front end respray. Cream grille.
Interior Original red vinyl, new red carpets, homemade under-dash shelf. Bud vase. New wooden panels in boot. Stereo under dash, no aerial.
Price £1,400, advert in a magazine.
Fate Lisa will own this car for ever.

Lada
Model Lada Riva 1200 4-Door Saloon 1986
Engine Standard 1200cc, genuine 22,500 miles when purchased, rebuilt carb, rebuilt distributor, lots of new bits.
Gearbox Standard 4-speed manual, rebuilt clutch hydraulics, Riva 1300 diff.
Suspension Spax uprated lowering springs front and rear, 40mm drop.
Wheels Standard 13" steels, painted gold rims with black centres, chrome Lada centre caps.
Exterior Original 4-door saloon, debadged, coachlines removed, Capri twin headlights with MK3 Cortina trim rings, Hella 55mm front indicators, Landrover stop/tail lamps, indicators and reflectors, hidden fog and reverse lamps on motorised bracket under rear valance, no bumpers, electric aerial, blended-in front wings, smoothed and detrimmed sills, Guiness CHMSL ("GUINSL"), green 4-piece neon kit.
Paint Ford black, sprayed by me. (Was originally white)
Interior Tan vinyl seats under black vinyl covers with skull motif headrests, black vinyl dash, fur door trims, Kenwood head unit with homemade underseat speaker cabinets, extended gearstick with chrome skull knob, home-made dash mounted rev counter with rev and shift lights, chrome switch panel, fur parcel shelf, fur sun visors and rear view mirror.

Fate To be experimented on. I'm not ready to part with it just yet.
