John's Avenger Tiger Info
Tiger History
The Hillman Avenger was launched in 1970 and stayed in production until 1981. The last two years production were of the very badly facelifted Talbot version. The Avenger Tiger was a high performance variant of the original car produced in small numbers from 1972 to 1973. It was fitted with a tuned 1498cc engine which gave the car a 0-60mph time of 12 seconds and a top speed of 100mph.

My Tiger was bought as a part completed project from my friend Colin, and came as a rolling shell with a motor and about 30 boxes of bits, including a set of fibreglass wings and a roll cage. Most of the hard work was done but it all needed bolting together, wiring and plumbing etc. I only had access to a lock-up without power, so things were never really going to get off the ground. After a while (I think it was about a year) I gave up on the idea and sold all the bits on to a chap from the ASOC.
