| Tiger History |
The Hillman Avenger was launched in 1970 and stayed in
production until 1981. The last two years production were of the very badly facelifted
Talbot version. The Avenger Tiger was a high performance variant of the original car produced in
small numbers from 1972 to 1973. It was fitted with a tuned 1498cc engine which gave
the car a 0-60mph time of 12 seconds and a top speed of 100mph.
My Tiger was bought as a part completed project from my friend Colin, and came as a rolling
shell with a motor and about 30 boxes of bits, including a set of fibreglass wings and a
roll cage. Most of the hard work was done but it all needed bolting
together, wiring and plumbing etc. I only had access to a lock-up without power, so things
were never really going to get off the ground. After a while (I think it was about a year)
I gave up on the idea and sold all the bits on to a chap from the
ASOC.
